New awards to celebrate the best training providers in the industry

New awards are set to celebrate the best training providers in the Scottish construction industry.

Scotland’s Hub South West announced the awards to recognise the efforts of training providers in both small businesses and larger companies. Companies can apply to one of four categories with an emphasis on youth employment.

Entries are limited to one per company and forms can be downloaded on the hub’s website. The categories are split into two groups, Best Training Culture and Best Young People Employer, with two sub-categories in each for over 25 and under 25.

Chief Executive of Hub South West Michael McBrearty said: “The skills shortages we have within this sector have been widely-reported and are well-known.”

“In addition to supporting the project’s commitment to engaging local communities, the small and larger firms involved with hub South West also strive to do their part in tackling wider skills issues across the industry. It is only fitting that we should applaud their efforts.”

Best Young People Employer will examine the promotion of construction as a career, structured framework apprenticeships, opportunities for disabled people, and programmes aimed towards women. Best Training Culture will award successful ideas with training platforms that encourage staff learning and are tied with the overall development of the business.

All entrants must be linked to the South West Hub. The deadline for entries is March 29, and all shortlisted must present to representatives from CIBT and Skills Development Scotland.
