Smoother journeys on A66 Keswick route from £668,000 resurfacing work

£668,000 worth of resurfacing works are on the way to improve journeys for commuters around Keswick in Cumbria.

Smoother journeys for commuters, Lake District visitors and other users of the A66 around Keswick in Cumbria are on the way in £668,000 worth of overnight resurfacing works.

Highways England is delivering two projects along the route over the next seven weeks which, as well as resurfacing, also involve refreshed road markings, new reflective road studs and some new fencing and cattle crossing signals.

A section of the route, between Threlkeld and Scales, will be the first to benefit with £168,000 of overnight work starting on Monday (13 June) and due to be completed by Sunday, 10 July.

Resurfacing and associated work worth £500,000 between Scales and Mungrisedale is due to start on Monday, 27 June and be completed by Wednesday 20 July.

Highways England project manager Peter Gee said: “This is important work to ensure local people, businesses and tourists can continue to enjoy smooth and safe journeys through this part of the Lake District.”

“We’ll be doing most of the work overnight to minimise inconvenience to people.”

Most of the work will be done between 8pm and 6am each night using temporary traffic lights, a 40 mph speed limit and occasional convoy arrangements with drivers being led past the road works at 10mph by a contractor’s vehicle. Some side roads will also be closed overnight but these will be signed locally.

Some daytime working will also take place between Scales and Mungrisedale as a section of the carriageway needs to be reconstructed rather than simply resurfaced.
