Kier has been chosen by Burnley College as preferred bidder to deliver a £5.5 million teaching block and sports centre extension at the site. The project has been procured via the Procure North West Framework.
In recent years, Burnley College has seen a large increase in student numbers and in order to provide for that increase, Kier will deliver a new BREEAM Very good rated teaching building, along with an extension to the sports centre.
The teaching building will create a 2,500m2 teaching space and social learning spaces over four-storeys, as well as this, a specialist mock ward area to support the College’s health and nursing courses. The 950m2 extension to the sports centre will see a strength gym, running tack, therapy suite, dance studio and three new teaching spaces housed there.
The project is due to be onsite in Autumn 2020, with a completion date of Autumn 2021.
Peter Commins, regional director at Kier Construction North West said, “We are delighted to have been selected as preferred bidder by Burnley College on this exciting project. Education is a core sector for our business and we have vast experience delivering high-quality education schemes across the North West. Kier is proud to be supporting the college with the delivery of this first-class teaching facility. We look forward to working alongside Burnley College, Identity Consult and the wider team.”
