Nexus Planning has secured one of the first permissions for a vertical extension through the new permitted development rights announced in the Planning reform last year, to a residential block in Wadsworth.
Working on behalf of Thornsett, Nexus was able to gain Prior Approval for a two-storey extension to Parkside St Peters, which is an existing eight-storey residential block in Battersea, South West London. This permission will provide eight new flats and introduce roof terrace and external seating pods for new and existing residents.
Working together with Jefferson Sheard Architects, Nexus also secured approval from Wandsworth Borough Council this month (January 2021) for the vertical extension of Parkside St Peters. The existing residential accommodation comprises 69 apartments, 22 affordable housing units, an underground car park and a state-of-the-art 16,000 sq ft church for the local community to use.
Nexus proposed a total of two additional storeys, conforming with Permitted Development Part 20, Class A of the GDPO (2015). The additional floors will comprise eight new, two-bedroom, four-person flats, amounting to a total GIA of 896m2 including common areas. The two storeys increase the building height by circa 5.4 metres.
Rob Pearson, Executive Director of Nexus Planning London, said: “We are delighted to be one of the first planning consultancies to put the Planning Reform into action. Securing the Class A Permitted Development approval for Thornsett’s development not only means extra housing in Wandsworth, but importantly provides increased outdoor space for new and existing residents – something that is critical in the current climate. We look forward to seeing the extension coming to fruition and bringing enjoyment to all Parkside St Peters occupants.”
