Land & Water has been awarded a contract to carry out piling works to an area of Nottingham Canal which forms part of the Island Quarter development in Nottingham. The contract has been awarded on behalf of Sir Robert McAlpine.
The project, which started last week, sees Land & Water installing a sheet pile wall on the Canal, complete with concrete backfill and assisting in the formation of a new concrete capping beam, which will help protect the embankment for years to come.
Using a ravestein pontoon set-up, Land & Water is calling on its experience and civils capabilities to install from the water, as well as providing the opportunity for its apprentices to grow their skillset as they look after the quality monitoring. This is part of the firm’s commitment towards safeguarding the future of the younger generation through a career in civil engineering.
Lucy Lee, Contracts Manager at Land & Water, said: “This is the first time we have worked on a project for Sir Robert McAlpine and we are excited to get started. We pride ourselves on establishing trusted relationships with our clients and we were extremely honoured to be recommended for these works by the Canal & River Trust.
“This project allows Land & Water to show a different skillset to normal, harnessing our expertise in delivering essential piling works to the canal from the body of the water.
“We are very much looking forward to futureproofing the waterway as part of the wider development, which aims to create a thriving space in Nottingham.”
The Island Quarter is a 40-acre site which will be transformed to bring new homes, grade A office space, creative market, a lifestyle hotel, retail units, a ‘linear’ park and community space as well as student accommodation to the city.
Land & Water’s work on this circa £200k project highlights the firm’s commitment towards creating a unique heritage site which supports the changing landscape and environment we live in, whilst always striving to leave the world in a better place.
