Highways suppliers invited to put their best foot forward

Highways England has launched its supplier recognition scheme for 2016, to showcase great examples of performance and practices.

The launch of Highways England’s supplier recognition scheme gives suppliers the opportunity to share and showcase their success and also boost their profiles by putting themselves forward for a series of awards.

The company is focussed on three key imperatives: making our roads safer for all users including those who work on them; improving the experience of all road users; and delivering the government’s Road Investment Strategy.

The awards, which are open to Highways suppliers at every level in the delivery chain, recognise companies who embody safety, customer service and delivery, and who are exemplars of collaboration, innovation and productivity.

Supply Chain Director, David O’Neil, said: “A safe, serviceable, free-flowing network is essential and we are placing greater emphasis on putting safety first, clearing incidents within an hour and making sure our network remains available to traffic while we carry out improvements.

“Our suppliers play a vital part in helping us to deliver our programme. They integrate various specialisms across the sector bringing all that knowledge and expertise together to get the physical work done out on the network.

“We want as many of them as possible to nominate themselves so they receive the recognition they so rightfully deserve.”

Suppliers in direct and indirect contact with Highways England, including through joint ventures and the extended supply chain, can put themselves forward for an award. Highways England teams can also nominate suppliers/projects.

The eight key areas of the scheme are building capacity and capability, customer experience, communities, delivering sustainability and environmental solutions, inclusion, managing down cost/improving value, safety, health and wellbeing and supply chain management.
