Construction United football tournament to change perceptions of the sector

UK Construction Week will see construction workers swapping drilling for dribbling, in Construction United football tournament.

Construction United will be kicking off UK Construction Week this year, with the team players of the construction industry taking part in a football tournament which aims to change the perceptions of the sector.

The match will take place on an indoor pitch, with developers, contractors and construction companies given the opportunity to showcase their skills offsite.

The new event, which is the first of its kind for UK Construction Week, has come following a partnership with Construction United, a coalition of the construction industry’s key stakeholders.

Construction United is encouraging participants to help fundraise as part of the event, for its charity partners, CRASH, The Prince’s Trust and Time to Change.

The event is open to any construction company attending the exhibition or the show.

Speaking on the event, Nathan Garnett, Event Director of UK Construction Week said “Construction United is all about bringing the construction industry together, and as the UK’s largest event for anyone in construction, so is UK Construction Week.

“We are delighted to have partnered in this exciting football tournament, which is already creating a massive buzz around the industry.  We are anticipating 30,000 people at the NEC over 3 days, so this is THE perfect opportunity for some competitive fun in front of colleagues from up and down the country.

“Construction is an exciting and fun career; the aim is for UK Construction Week to portray it in that way too.”

Construction United are also running the Construction on Camera competition, encouraging professionals within the industry to submit images of their most impressive completed construction projects, which will be showcased on screens around the arena.

The photographs can range from small scale projects, to some of Britain’s most iconic buildings.

There will also be a Business Advice Centre, which will hold presentations addressing the issues that the construction sector currently faces, such as the skills shortage. These events will be open to schools and colleges attending UK Construction Week, with the opportunity to ask speakers on hand any questions they may have and offer advice to those wanting to enter the industry.
