Former whiskey bottling plant to be demolished to make way for £10M housing estate plan in Dundee.

A plan has been unveiled to demolish former whisky bottling plant, to make way for a new housing estate in Dundee.

Stewart House, the former Stewart’s Cream of the Barley plant at Kingsway East, could be replaced with 90 houses under plans by Persimmon Homes and site owner Bruce Linton.

The site is opposite Kingsway East fire station and is next to a site currently being considered for a new Costa coffee shop and Lidl supermarket.

Residents were informed that Stewart House was “all but vacant” and that the site was in need to redevelopment as there were problems with the building’s structure.

Iain Innes, Managing Director at Persimmon Homes North Scotland, said: “We recognise that the demand for family homes is particularly high in Dundee and have had first-hand experience of the popularity among homebuyers keen to remain in the city at our previous developments.

“The redevelopment of the now vacant Stewarts Building has the potential to offer around 90 family homes ranging from two-bedroom terraces to four-bedroom detached houses.”

More detailed plans are set to follow at a later stage, and the developers intend to hold a public consultation on the development.

A proposal of application notice has been logged with the council.

In 2012, plans for almost 60 new homes were lodged as part of a social housing project, however the proposals fell through amid concerns over traffic congestion and parking.
