Starting in July, the contract will provide more than £2M in savings in the first year.
Trafford Council has announced the recipient of a £235M contract to undertake environmental and infrastructure services.
Running for 15 years, the contract will give Trafford Council a wide range of infrastructure and environmental services and if successful during that time, there is an option to extend the contract by a further eight years.
Savings will be on street cleaning, grounds maintenance, highways services, bridges, road safety, street lighting and furniture, as well as commercial and domestic waste collections.
Amey has been selected following a 12-month tender process and Councillor Sean Anstee, Leader of Trafford Council, believes the partnership will ensure the Council’s priorities are met.
He said: “Trafford Council is pleased to be working in partnership with Amey and I am confident that, following a 12-month tender process, they are the right contractor to fulfil this brief.
“I was impressed with their tender response which demonstrated a great approach to partnership working which will be of benefit to both the residents and the Council as well as satisfying a whole range of requirements which will ensure the continued high quality maintenance of the borough.
“Our priority has always been to protect jobs and maintain a high level of service and I am confident that Amey is the right partner to be working with to achieve this aim.”
In the next year, huge savings are expected thanks to the promised innovative service delivery from Amey.
By providing environmental and infrastructure services, Amey expects to save Trafford Council £2.25M in savings by the end of next year, which is key at times when there is uncertainty in every council up and down the country about where austerity cuts will be implemented by the Government.
Through this contract, the required savings of 20% will be achieved while also continuing to provide high quality and value for money and services.
Future efficiency through continuous improvement and innovation in service provision throughout the contract was also a huge part of Trafford Council’s ambitions, and Amey is well placed to achieve this.
Work on the contract is set to start in July 2015.
