Berkeley Homes and Mactaggart & Mickel Homes both recognised.
Three housebuilders in the UK have won prestigious honours at the NHBC’s Health and Safety Awards.
The Awards, which are organized by the NHBC, recognise and reward the efforts of those site managers who display the highest levels of responsibility for health and safety in their roles on construction sites.
Judged by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), CITB and Constructing Better Health, the Health and Safety Awards also recognise those companies with robust and excellent health and safety management systems.
The categories recognised at the awards include best small builder site, best medium builder site, best large builder site and best multi-storey site.
This year is the sixth edition of the awards ceremony – and it is the only one in the UK that provides site managers with well-deserved health and safety recognition.
The three housebuilders who won awards are Colin Thain of Mactaggart & Mickel Homes, and Paul Dunnett and Gary Gill, both of Berkeley Homes.
They were recognised for continuously challenging online practices and the high standards set for health and safety not only for staff but also for members of the public.
NHBC Chief Executive, Mike Quinton, was pleased with the standard of candidates this year.
He said: “This year we have had an excellent shortlist of candidates which were a real cause for celebration and shows yet again how seriously health and safety issues are taken by the house building industry.
“We believe it’s extremely important to reward house builders that demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement in preventing accidents and ill health not just on-site but within the community it is developing in.
“The winners demonstrated that despite the diversity of the health and safety demands impacting the house building sector, they have continued to challenge practices on-site, especially as the industry continues to work hard in meeting the demand for more new, quality homes.”
The UK’s only health and safety awards exclusively for housebuilders, the Awards drive up safety standards in the industry through sharing best practices.
Open to all NHBC registered housebuilders, the Awards are judged on accident records, effective health and safety planning before the start of a project, how organised a site is and whether a site has the correct infrastructure to support a site manager which ultimately makes it safe for all.
