Lendlease to deliver £75M Elwick Place development, Ashford

Lendlease to begin works on £75M hotel and leisure scheme, Elwick Place in Ashford, Kent.

Following Ashford Borough Council’s agreement to fund £75M Elwick Place development, developer Stanhope has selected Lendlease to deliver the town centre cinema and hotel complex, which will help regenerate the town.

Plans to transform the brownfield site in the centre of Ashford town centre were approved in December 2015.

Stanhope PLC announced the plans after positive public feedback. Enabling works started at the end of last year, and work is set to start on the former Ashford Market site this month.

Phase one of Elwick Place includes a six screen cinema, a 58 bed family hotel to support visitors to Ashford, 8 restaurants / bar spaces to create dining experiences, around 280 new car parking spaces and attractive public space and landscaping.

Speaking following the approval for funding back in 2015, Ashford Borough Coucil leader Gerry Clarkson said: “A town centre cinema, set around a new square with places to eat and drink, will be a real draw and will help to bring extra vitality to the town centre during the day and evening. The old historic market gates will be incorporated into the landscaping to reflect a part of our history.

“It complements the major investment that has already taken place in the County Square Shopping Centre and Elwick Road shared space project, and is yet another example of the private sector seeing the opportunities that Ashford can offer.

“This is another part of the puzzle and shows Ashford is the place to invest and we are creating an exciting location to live, work and enjoy life.”

The second phase of the project will include the construction of around 200 flats.

The scheme has been designed by Guy Hollaway Architects.
