The Scottish government has issued a contract notice inviting interested parties to bid for the major Maybole bypass project.
With an approximate construction value of £30M, the Maybole bypass notice requires prospective bidders to participate in an official procurement process. The winning bidder will be responsible for delivery of around 5.2 kilometres of bypass, in addition to its associated junctions.
Once complete, the bypass will sieve motorists, separating local road users from those travelling longer distances – to key ports at Stranraer and Cairnryan, for instance.
In doing so, the Scottish government hopes to improve road safety for motorists and surrounding communities, while also bettering journey times and overall reliability – something we can all get behind.
“The Scottish government remains committed to delivering this strategic link, which serves the Ayrshire and Northern Ireland ferry ports, at the earliest possible opportunity,” said Humza Yousaf, Minister for Transport and Islands. “Completion will reduce congestion within the town, bringing much needed relief for the local Maybole community whilst improving journey times for long distance road users.
“I welcome the announcement which along with a contract notice issued for improvement work to the A9 at Berriedale Braes in the far north of Scotland, provides the construction industry with significant contract opportunities. This brings the total value of contracts awarded and advertised over recent months to £174M, demonstrating this government’s continued commitment to improving the transport network.”
Those bidders that best meet the criteria will be invited to tender for the Maybole bypass project. It is thought that work will begin in earnest during 2018.
