The construction and property development company ISG have now completed a hybrid steel and concrete frame structure for a mixed-used development on the corner of Princes Street and Rose Street in Edinburgh.
The Princes and Rose Street development is worth a total sum of £20M and will include a 136 room Premier Inn, two new restaurants, and a flagship 40,000sq ft retail outlet, with the development measuring a height of five-storeys in total and will be linked to the existing former BHS retail outlet, fronting Princes Street, through a new link bridge.
The former development, which rested upon the site now occupied by the steel and concrete frame, was demolished when works began 15 months ago, with the structure now replacing it consisting of 300 tonnes of steel as well as a 220 cubic metre concrete slab, which was poured over a period of 13 hours.
The ISG Regional Director for Scotland, Paul Beaton stated: “This has taken an enormous effort by our project team and, given the complexities of the site, it has required meticulous planning to reach this point. I am really proud of the progress that we have made.
“The challenges that the team has faced show how a partnership approach to problem solving is key and how important it is that we continue to think innovatively. This milestone signifies the next step in rejuvenating this underused space, providing exceptional new hospitality, retail and dining facilities in the heart of Edinburgh.”
Representing the property owner, the Fund Manager at LaSalle Investment Management, Steve Spray, added: “This is exciting progress that we are delighted to be able to share. This is an important redevelopment for Princes Street, bringing vital city centre floor space back into commercial use and this is a big step in realising that vision.”
The development is schedule to achieve full completion by the summer of 2020.
