Balfour Beatty will be the Principal Contractor who will help transform the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) in Glasgow into the temporary NHS Scotland Hospital, NHS Louisa Jordan, on behalf of the Scottish Government.
The hospital is currently being constructed as a precautionary measure in order to provide additional patient capacity, as well as flexibility, for NHS Scotland during the current COVID-19 global pandemic. If it is needed, the facility will, in the first instance, be used by patients who have received hospital treatment, are now recovering from their symptoms.
Balfour Beatty will act as Principal Contractor, along with its supply chain and partner contractors, and will deliver the 300-bed clinical facility within two weeks, work commenced on March 31st, 2020.
Work will include laying 25,00m2 of vinyl flooring, construction temporary sterile wards, installing and commissioning life-saving oxygen and gas systems, as well as a range of other complex tasks which are required to repurpose the facility which is designed for leisure, into one which will be fit to treat patients. In addition, Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick will also deliver elements of the mechanical and electrical engineering aspects of the project.
Balfour Beatty’s Regional Managing Director of UK Construction in Scotland and Ireland, Hector MacAulay said: “In these unprecedented times, we are extremely proud to be playing our part in the response to COVID-19 pandemic, supporting the critical work that our NHS workers are doing on the frontline, ensuring that NHS Scotland has the capacity it needs as we pull through this crisis together.”
All works will be carried out strictly adhering to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), to ensure the continued health, safety and wellbeing of all workers who are involved in Balfour Beatty’s latest project.
