A.P.S (UK) – the UK’s leading aerial photography company

APS has more than 30 years of experience in providing high resolution digital photography for clients ranging from construction companies and local authorities, to developers and marketing professionals.

Providing the finest pictures taken on days that are conducive to the best conditions, APS gives a service that is sought-after all over the construction industry.

The Company is run by Neil Mitchell who spoke about the services offered while showing some standout examples of the end product.

Could you tell us a bit about your business? What are its origins?

I started the business in 1984 and have taken nearly all the aerial photographs since then, flying a total of 4000+ hours.

Was working on construction projects a conscious move or was it an organic thing?

We work with a range of different professionals but moving into construction wasn’t an organic change to the company. We always looked to work within this industry and it has been an essential part of our success right from the very first day.

Can you give us a couple of examples of projects you’ve been involved in and what you provide for clients?

We have a variety of construction projects that have used our aerial photography to great effect for marketing and other purposes. The image seen here is of the newly constructed biomass plant at Drax Power Station in Yorkshire.photography

What do you feel you offer the market that contemporaries do not?

We fly legally with commercial pilots only in light aircraft and helicopters. We don’t operate drones because they are restricted to an altitude of 400′ and pose a severe safety risk to the public.

How does your work positively impact on a construction project?

Our work provides marketing images for companies which have a great deal of impact in terms of helping to either advertise a development or show its true worth as a finished product.

In addition, our photographs are often used for quantity surveying. So, for example, we photographed the development of the Nissan Car Plant in Sunderland for Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd every month for about ten years. These photographs were then used in meetings to establish exactly what work had been completed on a monthly basis.

What plans do you have for the future?

I am targeting even more work throughout London especially, but in addition, I’d like the business to expand into markets abroad where companies undertaking projects benefit from our range of photography.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

New customers concentrate too much on price and not quality which can result in them getting a poor set of images which reflect on their work. I want to change that mindset and show that the cheapest option doesn’t translate as the best one. The best option for having really useful aerial images that portray developments at their best is to have high quality images taken at affordable and competitive rates. This is what we aim to provide.
