Application for £350M Leeds South Bank development submitted

CEG or Commercial Estates Group has unveiled a hybrid planning application which will enliven a 3.52 hectare site in South Bank, mere minutes from the new southern entrance to Leeds City Station.

Planning permission is being sought for two office developments in South Bank, with ground floor retail and leisure provision totaling 26,000 square metres. Elsewhere, a mixed-use development – comprising 103,900 square metres of office, retail, leisure, hotel, health, education and community space – will be built alongside 750 much-needed homes.

According to Jon Kenny, Development Director at CEG: “The CEG team has long identified with the truly unique characteristic of the South Bank area of the city, as a place to create an exceptional living and working environment; one rich in history and architectural gems waiting to be reinvigorated.

“This is a derelict site where we can deliver a vibrant mixed-use strategic development of a critical mass and international quality that can enable this regeneration area to become a true gateway into the city, reconnecting local communities.”

CEG is also collaborating with the award-winning architect Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios (FCBStudios), which won the International Tall Building of the Year Award in 2010 for Broadcasting Place in Leeds.

Alex Whitbread, Partner at FCBStudios, had this to say: “FCBStudios is proud of its commitment to Leeds. It’s a privilege for us to be working with CEG on the wider South Bank proposals, which are truly a once in lifetime opportunity to transform the city for the 21st century”

South Bank has the potential to more than double the size of Leeds City Centre in the near future, generating 35,000 jobs and thousands more homes in the process. During construction CEG will partner up with Employment Leeds to provide on-site training, education, upskilling and apprenticeship opportunities to benefit local residents.
