Project expected to provide £169M to regional economy.
With completion fast approaching of the Exhibition Centre Liverpool and Pullman Hotel project, it has been revealed that this significant development will have provided a huge sum of money to the region’s economy by the end of construction.
ISG Plc, who is delivering the scheme, have calculated that the project, which cost a combined £66M, will contribute around £169M to the economy.
At a cost of £40M, the Exhibition Centre will see an increase of exhibition space at ACC Liverpool of more than double, which will comprise of integrated and flexible event space.
The 216-room Pullman Hotel, which will be operated by Branded Hotel Management, cost £26M.
Data has been collated by canvassing the entire supply chain involved in the project and it has found that those living locally and beyond have benefited from the employment opportunities.
It has shown that local site operatives have used their high levels of skill to deliver such a state-of-the-art exhibition and conference venue.
Since work started on the project at the beginning of last year, approximately 2,600 people have worked on the site according to ISG’s data and 76% live within the north west.
The data also shows therefore, that there is a healthy scattering of workers outside of the region who have also benefited from work. The city of Liverpool is well represented too, with over half of the workforce residing there. People who are local have also been given or will be given, work placements to gain valuable experience on a live site.
The project has also done its bit to cater for those starting out in the construction industry who want to impress and move up the ladder.
There have been 26 skilled apprenticeship opportunities provided since the start of work, all of whom are working hard to obtain professional qualifications.
In addition to this, 58 NVQ’s have been attained while working on the development.
ISG’s Northern Regional Managing Director, Danny Murray, spoke about the commitment to create a “highly skilled workforce” and its importance.
He said: “The construction industry is a key driver of regional economic prosperity but we also have a shared responsibility to create a diverse and highly skilled workforce to move the sector forwards.
“Major projects, through their scale and programme duration, provide an excellent opportunity to define and implement a vision for real community legacy, and it’s testament to the ambition and commitment of the project stakeholders at Exhibition Centre Liverpool that so much has been achieved to directly benefit the region.”
Work on the development will be completed later this year.
