Young Professionals in Construction hold first event

A newly formed group, Young Professionals in Construction (YPiC), has successfully held its first networking event at the Edinburgh offices of commercial law firm Maclay Murray & Spens (MMS), with more than 100 people in attendance.

YPiC was created to address the lack of forums for young professionals working in the construction sector to network with other industry professionals in order to advance their careers.

Further networking opportunities will be available at specially held educational workshops and social events.

YPiC has already proven to be popular, with over 250 names subscribing to its mailing list since its launch less than a month ago.

The collaboration between MMS, BAM Construction and 3DReid, which each represent a different sector of the construction industry, is believed to be the first of its kind in Scotland.

Linzi Coates-Hedalen of MMS said: “After many meetings, debates and questions about whether anyone would turn up, it was great to see so many young professionals from the construction and engineering sectors join us and make our maiden event a success.

“The attendance, and the further interest YPiC has attracted in just a short time, proves there is a need for a relaxed forum for young professionals in the construction industry – whether it be professional services, contractors or the design team – to network with their peers.”

Membership is currently free and open to anyone in the early stages of their career, with YPiC already planning its second event.
