The City of Edinburgh Council has given the green light for up to 400 new homes at Fountainbridge, according to the developers.
The Grosvenor Group has said that the City of Edinburgh council has granted planning consent for its build-to-rent scheme at Springside, Foundbridge which they say will unlock the potential of the area close to the city centre.
The group have already completed the first phase of the development which included 250 homes, including affordable homes, serviced apartments and two student residences for up to 600 students. They have created a public square with a children’s play area, a pedestrain route linking Fountainbridge to Haymarket and an underground car park with 265 spaces.
Grosvenor have also delivered 46 private rented homes that demonstrate the potential for well-managed rental properties in a good location.
David Yaldron, Director City Centre Developments, at Grosvenor, said: “We welcome the City of Edinburgh’s forward-thinking decision in granting planning consent. Our project team has collaborated closely with local neighbourhood organisations and today’s decision marks an important and exciting step forward for the area’s wider regeneration.
“In addition to new homes, this consent includes plans for a new public square, community spaces and commercial and retail space, which we hope will add to the vibrancy of the neighbourhood and re-position it as one of the best places to live in Edinburgh.”
The architects on the scheme are CDA and HTA.
Grosvenor acquired the site in 2006, with Joint Venture partners, the Royal Bank of Scotland and local developer AMA.
