Work has begun on a major regeneration scheme which will transform Sunderland city centre, starting with Vaux brewery.

Work is due to start on the first building at the former Vaux brewery site in Sunderland today, with the 60,000sq ft office block the first of its kind to be built in the city for several years.

The building, which has been derelict for 17 years, will become part of the major regeneration scheme.

The  works are being carried out by joint venture Siglion, made of Carillion, Sunderland City Council and Igloo Regeneration, with the aim to regenerate Sunderland and re-position it as a place for opportunities and investment.

It will be one of the few sites in the city centre offering Grade A office space to attract new businesses.
