A contract detailing the construction of a Degree Apprenticeship Centre for the WMG, on behalf of the University of Warwick, has been completed by the contractor company Kier.
This Degree Apprenticeship Centre contract was granted to Kier at a cost of £10M and consists of a 2,400sq m, three-storey development which features teaching rooms, breakout space for students, employee offices, a laboratory, and a wind tunnel for the purpose of testing transportation aerodynamics.
The Managing Director at Kier Regional Building Central, Mark Pausey stated: “Handing this project over on time and on budget to the client is great. Throughout this project, we have engaged heavily with the local community and have enjoyed delivering social value to the area.
“We are thrilled to have reached this completion, I look forward to seeing the centre flourish and to continue our strong relationship with the University of Warwick and WMG.”
Adding to this, the new centre has created enough space to accommodate a further 1,000 students while also providing three part-time jobs, three apprenticeships, three work experience opportunities, and ten days of technical training throughout the construction process.
The Director of Degree Apprenticeships at WMG, Sue Parr commented: “The iconic WMG Degree Apprenticeship Centre, delivered in partnership with the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership and Midlands Engine, demonstrates a step change in design philosophy to make a world class study environment that is absolutely in keeping with modern delivery for industry.
“It has been wonderful to welcome the first intake of apprentices being able to provide a dynamic and professional environment in which to study and to develop the skills needed for their future careers and for the businesses in which they work.”
The Senior Project Manager at the University of Warwick Estates, Tony Davies added: “This is a landmark project for the University, and I am delighted this striking design was delivered on time and within budget.”
