Emerging London developer announces plans for custom build

London and Essex Developer NU living, part of the Swan group, announces plans to release custom build homes.

UK developers have been slow to provide this ownership option, despite its popularity, leaving buyers across the country without the option for custom and self-build homes. NU living plan to tackle this shortage, with the release of custom build homes at the highly anticipated third phase at Craylands, Basildon.

With just 10,000 custom build homes expected to be constructed in 2015, this figure is expected to rise in the near future due to high demands from buyers.

According to a survey recently carried out by the National Custom and Self Build Association (NaCSBA) 26M British adults would like to build their own home at some stage in their life, with 6.5M currently doing researching or planning into the process.

NU living is meeting the increased demand with the upcoming phase of the Basildon development, Craylands Estate will be regenerated as part of the project, with 971 affordable, shared ownership and private apartments. Over five years, it will create 258 private sales properties, with ten percent of build plots allocated to self-builders.

Phase III is located next to Fryth Park and will mainly consist of three-bedroom semi detached houses and four bedroom detached houses. It will allow customers to work closely with the NU living team, with the choice of a range of housing types, layout, external finish and specification though a mix of new building technologies and systems. The systems will provide a viable model of 21st century housing delivery. The NU living team will guide buyers who choose this option, through the process including external finishes already with preapproved planning permission from the local authority.

All profits from the sale of NU living homes are reinvested to fund the regeneration of exemplary and affordable new homes.
