RICS launch nationwide infrastructure photography competition

For the second consecutive year, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors have launched a photography competition to raise public awareness of the importance of infrastructure.

The competition began in 2014 attracting 300 entries, culminating in a VIP exhibition and an auction of the top ten photographs. The auction raised more than £1000 for LandAid, a charity working with children who are disadvantaged due to their social or economic circumstances.

It showcases the very best infrastructure photography including railways, bridges, water supply systems and energy generating facilities.

Last year’s winner was Rita Testa, with her image “Double Travel” which was taken from The Shard and consists of the iconic image of the rail tracks at London Bridge.

The competition will be judged by a panel of seven infrastructure experts. Chair of the judges,  Ann Bentley, Global Chair at Rider Levett Bucknall, said: “We’re excited to be launching this hugely beneficial competition once again.

“We hope the images captured in this competition reflect the achievements of the property and construction sector and inspire others to pursue a career in this exciting and fulfilling area of work.”

RICS President Elect, Amanda Clack, Partner at EY and Head of Infrastructure (Advisory) is also a judge on the panel. She adds: “I hope this competition not only raises the importance of such essential construction schemes, but highlights the need for improvements to be made to our infrastructure across the UK.  Bringing together infrastructure with photography combines two of my favourite passions in one – I’m really looking forward to judging this competition.”

The competition is open to anyone above the age of 18, and original photographs of any man-made physical infrastructure structure can be submitted. The deadline for the competition is 19 February 2016.

The winner of the competition will win £2,000 worth of photography equipment, with the runner up receiving £1000 of high-tech photography kit.
