Video: 116 excavators demolish an overpass in one night

As the influence of BIM spreads throughout all facets of the construction industry, we frequently hear about the advantages of working collaboratively. Construction workers took the concept to new heights as 116 excavators demolished an overpass in China.

The excavators took their places on both sides of the road and set about demolishing the 1,640-foot, two-lane overpass in the eastern city of Nanchang.

Due to increase in car ownership in China, the road was deemed too narrow to cope with the rise in traffic. Plans for a new subway system in Nanchang also meant that the 24-year-old overpass had to be removed.

The project was  carried out on August 26 and got underway at 10:30pm.

Work on the road was completed by the end of the night, with the full demolition and clean up operation taking a total of 46 hours.

China is investing over $720Bn on 303 transport infrastructure projects over the next three years.

Last week UK Construction Online reported on the main section of the world’s longest sea bridge being connected. The bridge will be 55Km long and will connect Hong Kong, Macao and Zhuhai – the three largest cities in the Pearl River Delta region.
