ESFA school framework contracts awarded

Caledonian has been appointed as Principal Contractor for the £50M ESFA school framework.

The company, along with its design partner, HLM Architects, will provide the design and construction services for the new schools, academies and other educational facilities, to be delivered under the programme.

The programme will deliver innovative, design-led solutions, promoting a collaborative approach through the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA), as well as the use of Lean Manufacturing techniques to improve environmental credentials of the projects.

The plan will allow entire school buildings to be manufactured off-site with only minimal works required onsite to install, connect and commission the buildings, with Caledonian selected as one of two suppliers of the off site solutions.

The design and build of modular primary schools has been procured directly by Central Government as part of a national agreement comprising three rounds.

The Framework falls under the second wave of the Priority School Building Programme (PSBP). The four year programme will see 16 schools constructed, with further schemes expected up to a value of £95M.

Part of the ESFA commitment is to develop and apply modern methods of construction to the educational estate, revolutionising the way education buildings are specified, procured and delivered.

“I’m delighted that our collaborative stance and quality of Caledonian’s approach has been recognised by our place on the framework and our innovative offsite solutions will play a significant part in delivering the Government’s strategy for the education sector,” said Paul Lang, Chief Executive Officer of Caledonian.

“Gaining this place on the Framework underpins our strategy to double revenues in the current financial year, where we have already created over 100 new jobs since January, with significant growth anticipated in Education, MoD, MoJ and residential sectors.

“This follows on from winning a £50M contract to design and build a 1,500 hotel style living accommodation for key workers on the Hinkley Point C power station development”.
