Awards ceremony will be held this October.
The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) has today announced the finalists for this year’s Construction Manager of the Year Awards.
Taking place on the 8th October in front of upwards of 1,000 guests, the evening gives those in attendance the chance to network with important industry figures.
Located at Grovesnor House Hotel in London, the Construction Manager of the Year is the gold standard of award accolades, with its focus on people rather than projects.
The elite judging team spends half a year interviewing candidates and visiting sites that are shortlisted. In total, this means they clock up 15,000 miles travelling to make sure that the right decisions are made when announcing the finalists.
This year, 69 finalists have been named to contest the ten categories, representing construction management of a combined £2.3Bn worth of building assets.
The Construction Manager of the Year Awards is a prestigious event because many of those who have won have since gone on to construct some of the greatest buildings in Britain.
Previously, those who have won awards have gone on to build on the 2012 London Olympics, and The Shard in London.
‘New Build and Refurbishment over £60M’ and ‘Residential Projects under Six Storeys’ are just two of the categories at the awards which has changed over the years with successful solutions to environmental challenges, use of digital technologies and effective public private partnerships just a few of the alterations since CIOB has been celebrating construction management excellence in the industry.
Saleem Akram is the Director at CIOB and he spoke about how becoming a finalist can be ‘career-enhancing’.
He said: “The value of professional construction managers is felt well beyond the construction site. They not only produce outstanding buildings but their work influences the way we live our lives and how we interact with the environment around us.
“Our congratulations go to the finalists who in reaching the final have achieved something very special that will enhance their careers.
“They have all proved themselves more than equal to a wide range of challenges, combining resourceful and creative application of building technology with inspiring project and team management and top communication skills.
“It is very pleasing to see the less well-known companies in construction putting their best people forward and challenging some of the UK’s biggest brands.
“Talent exists throughout the industry and the Construction Manager of the Year Awards recognizes those who are achieving exceptional work no matter where they operate.”
Finalists include managers from John Sisk & Son, Kier, Willmott Dixon, Sir Robert McAlpine, BAM, Wates Construction, Mace and ISG, to name a few.
Both gold and silver medals are handed out on the night in each category, representing the individual management excellence.
