Highways England is making journeys better and safer for North Yorkshire drivers between York and Scarborough.
Over 11,000 drivers who use A64 will benefit from three improvement scheme by Highways England, which will make their journeys smoother, better and safer.
The works will create a smoother road surface along with better footpaths, road markings and drainage, and a renewed safety barrier which is crucial if accidents happen.
Highways England project manager Adeeb Saeed said: “Our improvements along the A64 over the next few months mean people have better and safer better journeys on this important road between York and Scarborough.
“We’re carrying out the work overnight when there is least traffic so disruption is kept to a minimum for drivers and residents.”
For any overnight closures on some parts of the A64, there will be clearly signed diversions in place, and some use of temporary traffic lights.
The improvements will be completed by the end of April.
The roads come as part of the Road Investment Strategy, which is a long-term vision for England’s motorways and major roads, outlining how we will create smooth, smart and sustainable road.
Over five years, the Road Investment Strategy will se £15.2Bn invested in over 100 major schemes, which will prevent deaths or serious injuries, build over 1,300 additional lane miles, improve 200 sections of the network for cyclists and benefit up to 250,000 people by reducing noise impact.
