Student accommodation in Brass Founders, Sheffield has secured full planning permission, on schedule and budget to open in 2017/18.
Crosslane student Developments, part of the Crosslane Group, has today announced that Brass Founders, Sheffield is on time and on budget to open in time for the 2017/18 academic year.
The project includes a 437 bed, new build premium student accommodation property. This follows the securing of full planning permission by Crosslane and a high number of bookings have already been made through Crosslane’s letting and operational management company, Prime Student Living.
The property comprises three new residential blocks of six, seven and eight storeys, with solar panels on the roof and the outbuildings will have a green “living” roof. The high specification brick and glass façade with a U-shaped formation creates a large private landscaped courtyard in which residents can study, collaborate and socialise.
Of the 437 beds, 144 of them will be high specification self-contained studio apartments and 293 premium en-suite bedrooms in clusters of up to six bedrooms, sharing a lounge, kitchen and dining area.
Kingston Shaw was appointed as interior designers, creating an environment within the building that promotes social interactivity. The ground floor will have a large community space, with different areas including a games room, onsite gym, cinema/multi-media room, study zone and meeting hubs. Separately, there is a luxury kitchen and an 18-seater dining area. The ideas came from a number of surveys and research into what students look for in accommodation.
Crosslane acquired the site in February 2015, and is the group’s first development in Sheffield and Yorkshire.
Create Construction is the main contractor on the site.
Construction commenced in November 2015, and the development has now reached full height creating a landmark in the local area, St Vincent’s Quarter, which is currently undergoing regeneration.
On the 24 March, Crosslane will be opening the show flats for Brass Founders at 294-296 Glossop Road, directly opposite the University of Sheffield New Spring House building, which will exhibit both a studio and an en-suite cluster flat bedroom. Prime Student Living will be present to take bookings and provide additional information.
Will Prew, Contracts Manager, Create Construction, said: “As the main contractor for Brass Founders, we are delighted to be working with Crosslane on this exciting scheme in Sheffield. A great deal of planning, effort and determination by all involved has ensured that the development is on track and on budget for opening in time for the 2017/18 academic year.”
Kate Kingston, Managing Director of Kingston Shaw reveals: “Crosslane’s Brass Founders building is centred around an attractive large outdoor courtyard that residents can enjoy. We wanted to bring the outside into the interior design of the building by using natural elements like wood and earthy colours, creating spaces that are functional and sophisticated.”
