Planning permission has been granted to a £2Bn scheme that will see Redrow build 7,000 new homes at Plasdŵr, dubbed a ‘garden city’ on the outskirts of Cardiff.
The City of Cardiff Council’s planning committee gave the go ahead for the site’s grand vision this week with work now set to get underway on the 900-acre site.
The council approved plans last year for the first stage of the Plasdŵr development, which will see 630 homes built on a 16-acre plot.
The first 126 of these will begin construction shortly, with infrastructure improvements also set to continue.
Redrow described the development that borders Radyr, Danescourt, Fairwater, Pentrebane and St. Fagans, as a “world-class, sustainable community” that will also see the creation of four primary schools, a secondary school, health centres, shops, offices, restaurants, leisure facilities, parks and preserved woodland.
Wayne Rees, Project Director for Plasdŵr at Redrow said: “Plasdŵr will deliver the homes and community our capital needs, helping fuel economic growth.
“Integration with existing local communities and infrastructure is key to the success of Plasdŵr, helping it truly become a ‘place’. We are working closely with stakeholders to bring both current and new residents together as neighbours.”
The £2Bn scheme is expected to take up to 20 years to complete.
