The Skills Show to highlight apprenticeships

The Skills Show taking place over the next three days at the NEC in Birmingham will showcase high quality apprenticeships across more than 170 industries.

The show will see experts from the National Apprenticeship Service be on hand to speak to thousands of people about the opportunities that come with taking an apprenticeship on.

Events will also be held for employers working with the Apprentice Ambassador Network (AAN), Federation for Small Business (FSB) and World Skills UK.

Career sessions will be held covering such industries as engineering, construction and hospitality. The Get In Go Far stand will provide young people with a chance to seek advice on their career options.

Those attending the show will be able to get involved in the ‘Have a Go’ experiences and see try their hand at the skills needed in such sectors as construction, infrastructure and engineering.

Sue Husband, Director, National Apprenticeship Service described The Skills Show as a “fantastic opportunity” to showcase the career options available to young people.

She commented: “With over 1500 job roles in over 170 industries, there is an apprenticeship for everyone.

“We will be talking to lots of young people, parents and teachers to share information on apprenticeships and to encourage more of them to consider an apprenticeship as a route to a rewarding career.

“We want to show that no matter who you are, or where you are from, or what career ambitions you have, an apprenticeship will help you achieve your career goals.”

Attending the event will be the Skills Minister, Robert Halfon, to view first-hand the guidance on offer for people from all backgrounds.

Mr Halfron said: “I’m looking forward to meeting the many aspiring students, young people and apprentices who want to get on in their chosen career.

“Events like the Skills Show are essential in giving people of all backgrounds and all ages the skills they need to get on the ladder of opportunity.”
