ISG appointed to build homes for £22M Norwich scheme

Developer Orbit appoints ISG to build first homes at St Anne’s Quarter development in Norwich city centre.

ISC has won a contract worth £22M, which will begin in April and see them building 190 apartments over the next two years as part of developer Orbit’s St Anne’s Quarter.

The development will eventually have 437 apartments and houses available through a mix of both affordable and private rent, shared ownership and outright sale.

Maggie McCann, Development Director at Orbit, said: “The contract marks an important milestone in our £80M transformation of this city centre site, which previously stood empty for twenty years. As the first of the new apartments go up, Orbit’s vision for St Anne’s Quarter will really start to come to life.”

Danny Blakeston, Managing Director of ISG’s Engineering Services business, commented: “This latest win will build on a strong partnership with Orbit, transforming an underused site to deliver modern, high-quality mixed-tenure homes.”

The plans also include landscaped open space and a central plaza on the riverfront, which will bring long-term financial investment to the area with visitors and locals, along with environmental and social benefits.

There are currently three commercial units available covering 1,464 square foot on the plaza, which will offer exciting business opportunities for those interested in becoming part of the development.

There have been plans to bring new life into the area since the 1990’s, and so the development is being seen as the “final piece of the jugsaw” for the King Street area.

The scheme will also include the renovation of the Grade II listed Howard House, which was once a summer home for Henry Howard in the late 16th century. Works began on the site in 2015, which revealed human remains, coins, pottery, oyster shells, animal bones and painted glass dating from its time as the 13th-century Austin Friars Priory.
