Brownfield site in Deptford to become new neighbourhood

London developer Anthology will transform a disused trading estate in Deptford into a new neighbourhood.

The site, located off Arklow Road, will be transformed by London residential developer, Anthology, after plans were recently given the green light by Lewisham Council.

The new neighbourhood will provide quality new homes, employment opportunities, creative studios and public open space. Once completed, Deptford Foundry will consist of 316 homes comprising a collection of one, two and three bed apartments.

It will offer 32,000sq ft of creative employment space.

The development known as ‘Deptford Foundry’ will be created on nearly 2.9 acres of brownfield land on the former Arklow Road Trading Estate, off Arklow Road which adjoins Network Rail property.

Mark Dickinson, Managing Director at Anthology said: “Deptford has a strong community which is packed full of diversity and rich history so we are proud to be launching the first of Anthology’s developments in this area. We are keen to embrace the local characteristics and the history of the former trading estate, previously home to a metal foundry, through the homes being constructed on the site.

“The development will not only provide new homes for the area but also create extra jobs and enhance the public space, which we hope will help boost the local economy. We have been working collaboratively with local residents and Lewisham Council to ensure the full potential of the vacant site is unlocked.”

Designed by Rolfe Judd Architecture, the Deptford Foundry development will provide a mix of social homes and open market homes along with commercial premises offering creative studios, two new play spaces and green features to promote biodiversity.

Richard Lustigman, Residential Director at JLL comments: “Deptford is undergoing a rapid and significant transformation as the benefits of the location for owner occupiers and investors become increasingly apparent.  Boasting excellent transport links, a strong sense of community and a district that is steeped in history, Deptford is emerging as a new London destination, promising a very positive outlook for the years ahead.”

Situated between Canada Water, the river Thames and Greenwich, Deptford is in a prime location for regeneration.
