£200M employment park proposed for Harworth

An outline planning application for a 2.5 million square foot employment park has been submitted by Barton Willmore – the UK’s largest independent, integrated planning and design consultancy.

The scheme, to be sited on a 200 acre parcel of land to the south of Harworth and Bircotes, is set to boost the local economy by an approximate £500M and create an additional 3,500 new jobs.

Starter units for small businesses are to be provided alongside larger spaces for regional and national occupiers, while a gateway hub with shopping, cafe, creche, public house and hotel facilities is intended to form a key focal point of the scheme. Elsewhere, areas of natural green space have been designated and a new road, designed to link Bawtry Road to the nearby Blyth Road, is to be built.

Harworth South Limited is funding the £200M scheme, while Barton Willmore is lending its planning and design expertise to the project.

Dan Mitchell, Partner at Barton Willmore, commented: “The application represents the culmination of many months of hard work in designing a scheme that will provide a real step change in the fortunes of this important town. Harworth is an exciting place of opportunity and to do business, with passionate local people who want the town to be successful. Our proposals will provide much needed accommodation for many local businesses creating the right opportunities for them to grow.”

Max Howard, Director at Harworth South Limited said: “We have evolved our proposals by working closely with Bassetlaw District Council and Harworth Town Council. Now that the application is submitted together with the full evidence base, we hope that the Council can support the proposals at Planning Committee. The scheme is important for Harworth and for Bassetlaw and will provide much needed new jobs. We have the opportunity to attract high technology manufacturing businesses and logistic companies. The site is ideally situated adjacent to the A1(M).”

Harworth South Limited is being advised by Brown & Co’s Retford office, while Barton Willmore is providing town planning, masterplanning and landscaping services.
