London Gateway Logistics Centre officially opened

Robert Goodwill was part of the ribbon cutting ceremony for the centre.

The Minister for Transport was on hand yesterday for the official opening of a distribution centre on what will be the largest logistics hub in the UK.

Located adjacent to the UK’s newest deep-sea terminal, the DP World London Gateway Logistics Centre is in a superb location and is close to the largest consumer market in Western Europe.

The logistics centre is part of the larger port at London Gateway which will provide all structures on the site with the latest technology that will in turn result in better reliability and efficiency than ever before.

As a result, the supply chains will benefit because everything will be operational even through the worst weather conditions.

Set to become one of the largest of its type in Europe, the DP World London Gateway Logistics Park offers excellent connections to the UK’s national road and rail network due to its location which makes it ideal for streamlined distribution centre operations.

The official opening marks the completion of the first distribution centre.

Its first phase has provided almost 17,000sq m of distribution and logistics space, while there is also a sizeable space for an office. All work is set to a ‘very good’ BREEAM standard.

Exciting times lie ahead for the centre, with an expected increase in size to 36,000sq m.

The Minister for Transport, Robert Goodwill, commended the intentions of the ‘groundbreaking development’.

He said: “I am delighted to have been able to open the London Gateway Logistics Centre, which is the next step in this groundbreaking development on the north bank of the River Thames, which is breathtaking in its size, scale and attention to detail.

“DP World London Gateway is an excellent example of the benefits inward investment brings to the UK infrastructure and the economy.

“Any project that gives the country an edge, whether it be generating supply chain efficiency or leading the way in environmental sustainability, should be commended.”

Along with Robert Goodwill, the ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by the World Chairman of DP, His Excellency Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem.
