Gatwick announces planning services framework award

Gatwick has announced the three companies to provide the airport with specialist planning services as it gears up for its biggest year of investment.

Arup, Atkins and Jacobs have been selected as Gatwick plans to invest £240M over the coming year. The companies will work closely with the airport on capacity assessments as it examines future growth from existing infrastructure.

Gatwick said the companies came out on top of the selection process due to their experience and knowledge in providing specialist planning services such as capacity analysis and simulation modelling.

The Airport Planning framework encompasses the complete airport infrastructure including terminals, aprons, airfield and all commercial, ancillary and support functions including landside roads and forecourts.

The airport is half way through a £2.5Bn programme of transformation that is envisaged will enhance passenger’s experience and boost growth for airlines.

Currently, the airport sees more than 44M passengers a year pass through its doors on short and long-haul point-to-point services and employs more than 24,000 people in on-airport jobs.

Gatwick’s Chief Planning Officer Tim Norwood, commented: “The award of this framework sends a clear message that Gatwick is committed to continued growth, despite the constraints of the single runway and our existing infrastructure.

“We will always look for clever ways to improve passenger processes while being focussed on what people want, and it’s important to work with specialists in this field to understand some of the critical flows of the airport”.
