London’s launch of five new reuse hubs known as “The Loop”

Groundwork London and the London Community Resource Network (LCRN) have launched five new reuse hubs on housing estates across London.

Groundwork London is a social and environmental regeneration charity who have changed places for the better, in some of the capital’s most disadvantaged neighborhood’s. They work with people to make surroundings greener, safer and healthier. They have also worked with the community and businesses, educating them about their environmental impact and ways of reducing natural resource use.

Known as “The Loop”, the hubs will collect, refurbish and redistribute unwanted wooden furniture, clean sofas and white goods; equip local people with the skills and resources to reuse more; reduce fly-tipping and improve the local environment.

The five hubs are located in Pembury Estate, Hackney; Grahame Estate, Barnet; White City Estate, Hammersmith; Samuel Lewis Trust Estate, Lambeth, and Andover Estate in Islington.

From the end of October, local residents have been able to take advantage of the new doorstep collection service by donating any unwanted items to be fixed, reused or recycled on the estates.

The Loops are part of the REPURPOSE project, delivered by Groundwork London and the London Community Resource Network along with local partners, with funding from the European Commission’s LIFE+ Programme. This ground-breaking new project will support residents to create community reuse enterprises on their housing estates, transforming redundant spaces and equipping local people with new skills and resources.

The REPURPOSE programme is managed by Groundwork London, in partnership with London Community Reuse Network (LCRN) and Middlesex University.
