Construction consultancy Turner and Townsend will be acting as project manager and CMD adviser to build the new Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice for Glasgow.
The £21M project will be a purpose built state-of-the-art facility, built at Bellahouston Park on land gifted by Glasgow City Council. It is being privately financed, largely by the fundraising efforts of the hospice and the generosity of supporters from the community. It will replace the current Hospice building in Carlton Place.
The Brick by Brick appeal was launched in September 2012, aiming to raise £15M of the £21M needed to build a new modern hospice fit for the 21st century. The new facility will provide 16 en-suite bedrooms, allowing privacy and comfort for every patient and family. There will also be a play lounge for children.
The hospice will be the first kind in the UK to implement the Sengetun model of care, which puts patients and family at the centre of its focus alongside optimal operational care.
Fifty companies in Glasgow formed the 50:10 group, a commitment from each company to raise over £10,000 towards the £500,000 required to fund the Atrium in the new Hospice. Through a number of fundraising activities such as marathon running and a thirty four mile hike, the Turner and Townsend team have raised in excess of £10,000 in four months.
Rhona Baillie, Chief Executive of the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice said: “Turner & Townsend has been working with us since 2014. They have helped us on the journey to deliver this facility from securing the site and concluding the legals, to getting involved in fundraising for the project. They are a fantastic supporter and we are very grateful to them. The new hospice will be purpose-built to give our patients and families privacy, compassion and the very best end-of-life care.”
The hospice has been providing free care to individuals with life-limiting illness since its inception in the 1980’s.
