Carillion named preferred bidder on £75M Fallowfield campus

Carillion has been picked as the preferred bidder by the University of Manchester to design and build the first phase of its new Fallowfield Student Residences project.

The Fallowfield campus will be re-designed and enhanced to give students a wider range of accommodation, study and support services.

Phase one of the £75M scheme will include over 1,100 cluster-flat study bedrooms distributed over eight accommodation blocks.

The blocks will comprise of four-storey residential units that include bedrooms and a kitchen area on each floor.

Carillion will develop final design and construction proposals, before contracts are signed and construction gets underway in August.

Carillion Chief Executive, Richard Howson, said: “We look forward to working with the University to deliver Phase one of the Fallowfield Student Residences project to support its objective of providing an excellent student experience”.

Diana Hampson, Director of Estates and Facilities at The University of Manchester said: “We are pleased to be working with Carillion on this project, which will offer our students the kind of quality accommodation and support services they would expect of a prestigious university like Manchester.”

The buildings are slated to finish by summer 2019.
