Construction firm, Bouygues UK, has been awarded the contract for Phase III of the redevelopment at Battersea Power Station.
The contract, expected to be worth more than £1Bn, is due to start on site in early 2016 and will run alongside Phases I and II.
Already on site is Phase I, Circus West by Carillion and Phase II the regeneration of the station itself, being undertaken by Skanska.
BPSDC chief executive Rob Tincknell said: “The appointment of Bouygues UK as preferred contractor to build Phase III – the gateway to the Power Station – is a major milestone and increases the total area under construction on site to approximately five million square feet.
“Bouygues UK demonstrated an impressive approach to the project and had a clear ability to address the challenges of the current London market, resulting in the best cost and programme outcomes. We welcome them to the delivery team that will build these new landmarks for London.”
Bouygues UK CEO and Chairman Madani Sow said: “We are honoured, and excited, to have been chosen to deliver Phase III of the Battersea Power Station project – one of the most iconic construction projects in Europe at this time. We have extensive experience in the delivery of such schemes, both in the UK and within the wider Bouygues Construction Group and this contract adds to our portfolio of work on regeneration schemes. We look forward to working with our colleagues at Battersea Power Station Development Company and using our expertise to help them deliver this ambitious London redevelopment.”
Construction involves the creation of a new pedestrianised high street, alongside of which will feature 1,305 apartments with some 350,000sq ft of retail and restaurant space. To the west of the site, Foster + Partners have designed ‘Battersea Roof Gardens’ which will include new homes, hotel and the eponymous Roof Gardens. While to the east is Prospect Place, a collection of five buildings with sculptural facades, designed by Gehry Partners.
Construction of Phase II also involves a community centre and children’s’ playground.
