Construction companies urged to submit BIM Survey

Construction firms are being urged to submit their responses to the ‘BIM Readiness survey’, which will give a reading on the industry’s rate of uptake of BIM, before its deadline next week.

The survey is being run by the Electrical Contractors Association, in collaboration with the Chartered Institution of Building Services (CIBSE) and BSRIA and is aimed at companies that operate in the building and engineering industries.

The government wants collaborative 3D BIM on all its projects by 2016.

The results from the survey will provide the government and the building services engineering sector and its stakeholders with information on the progress companies are making in terms of being ready for BIM Level 2 becoming mandatory on all Whitehall-procured contracts next year.

ECA Director of Business Services Paul Reeve said: ““It’s vital that the sector, and our stakeholders, understand how ‘BIM ready’ we are ahead of significant changes to central government procurement. When the survey results are in, they will be shared with the key players inside government and the wider industry.”

John Sands, BSRIA’s Principal Consultant and BIM specialist, John Sands said: “This survey will help us all to identify where we are in the BIM journey, and to enable us to plan the way forward to BIM maturity.

“With the implementation of the UK Government’s Level 2 BIM mandate just a few months away, the building services industry should be in a position to make the most of the opportunities it will present.”

The poll has the backing of key stakeholders such as SELECT, BEAMA, the Building and Engineering Services Association (B&ES), and numerous others.

The last date for completion is on Tuesday 15^th September, with the results will be made available in October this year.
