Wales Office Minister Alun Cairns has urged businesses in North Wales “not to get caught in the slow lane” and back the Northern Powerhouse.
The Minister, speaking to the CBI in North Wales, said the Northern Powerhouse will see “significant powers” devolved to other areas of the country and represented an opportunity to redress the North-South economic imbalance.
He encouraged businesses to invest in young people to prevent potential recruitment problems in the eastern parts of North Wales.
Mr Cairns said business leaders, MPs, AMs and councils should seek to work together to prioritise and form clear plans of actions on transport infrastructure. He also advised businesses to ignore political tensions over the Northern Powerhouse in the build up to the Assembly elections.
Speaking to the CBI in North Wales, Mr Cairns said: ““This is a fantastic opportunity for North Wales and we need to grab it with both hands. There is little point standing on the sidelines. I want North Wales to be key to the main action.”
“We have a wealth of industry that puts North Wales on the map as a global hub of manufacturing excellence.
North Wales’ export base and reputation for big energy projects makes it a perfect partner for closer collaboration to expand the economy of the north, as well as a dynamic small business sector across to Anglesey and Gwynedd.”
