Luxury car manufacturer, Bentley Motors, has asked Cheshire East Council to back its plans for the future of its headquarters in Crewe.
The development framework and masterplan drawn up by Bentley motors following discussions with the council, will allow the manufacturing operation to expand as the company’s ambitions grow.
Employing over 4,000 people, the car maker is the largest employer in Crewe and delivering the planned expansion is seen as vital for the local economy.
Planning consent was granted by in May last year for a 500,000sq ft expansion that would see the creation of a campus-style space featuring an engineering technical centre, design centre and workshop all on one site.
The new document comes after six weeks of public consultation, which ended in February this year, with Bentley confident that the masterplan will enable any future plans “are better informed and can minimise the impact on the local area.”
Most of the land associated with the development is owned by the council meaning any changes to the plans would require further negotiations.
Frank Jordan, Executive Director for place at Cheshire East Council said: “The Bentley development framework and masterplan has been through a comprehensive consultation process, which has highlighted a range of issues, which need to be taken into account by Bentley Motors if the company is to pursue its vision of a campus environment. As a result of the consultation, there have been changes to strengthen the framework.
“More respondents support than object to the vision of a campus and a substantial majority support the growth of Bentley Motors.”
