Hafod Homes to create 48 new properties in Bridgend

The summer months will see the start of a brand new housing development comprising 48 affordable homes in Bridgend, South East Wales.

Delivery of the £5.4M design and build residential development has been entrusted to partnership housing specialist Lovell on behalf of Hafod Homes and in association with Bridgend County Borough Council.

Hafod Homes’ intervention is timely. The development is poised to provide much-needed social housing off Coychurch Road, South East of the town centre proper. Once occupied by the Bridgend Town Amateur Football Club, the site has since been earmarked for residential use as part of Bridgend County Borough Council’s Local Development Plan.

The aim here is to create a distinctive range of energy efficient homes for a wide variety of residents, from single persons to couples and families. In total, 24 one- and two-bedroom apartments will feature alongside a three-bedroom bungalow and 23 two-, three- and four-bedroom houses. Crucially, all homes will meet sustainability standards equivalent to Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

In recognition of its importance to the regional economy, the scheme has also received Welsh Government funding in the form of social housing and housing finance grants.

What’s more, Lovell is working with Hafod Homes to ensure significant job and training opportunities for the local community including three apprenticeships, six jobs, seven paid traineeships and 150 hours of work experience placements.

“We are delighted to be working in partnership with Lovell, Bridgend County Borough Council and the Welsh Government to provide much-needed affordable homes in this area where there is high demand,” said Hafod Housing Managing Director Alan Morgan. “The site is ideally located close to the town centre and local amenities and it’s very rewarding to know that the build will deliver high-quality, modern homes and provide real benefits to the local community including employment and training opportunities. It will also help Welsh Government reach its target to deliver 20,000 affordable homes over the next five years.”

Construction is due to begin in June with completion scheduled for summer the following year.
