Network Rail has completed the construction of the platform structures and tracks for Elizabeth line services at Abbey Wood.
Work continues to progress on the new station at Abbey Wood as the structure of the new ticket hall has completed, with building’s internal fit-out also advancing well.
The timber and steel roof structure has been finished and will see a zinc cover installed.
Progress is also being made on the installation of the overhead electric equipment and signalling in addition to seating, customer information screens and CCTV.
The new station at Abbey Wood will feature a much larger ticket hall and a spacious concourse that leads directly onto a wide forecourt connecting the station to the Harrow Manorway Flyover.
Passengers will also have access to six lifts providing step-free access to all platforms.
The progress is another milestone as the new station gears up for completion in autumn 2017 and become part of the new Elizabeth line service, which will see journey times to numerous central London destinations cut in half when its begins in December 2018.
Matthew White, Surface Director at Crossrail said: “Construction of the new station at Abbey Wood will complete later this year. The new station will provide an improved experience for the thousands of people who use the station every day. The Elizabeth line will halve journey times to many central London destinations.”
