The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, is searching for property experts to form the new London Development Panel (LDP) as he launches the procurement process that is hoped will lead to more houses being built on publically owned land in London.
The LDP will be made up of around 30 of the capitals leading developers and contractors and will endeavour to accelerate the delivery of homes on public land over the next four years.
The recruitment process will have an emphasis on those with expertise in multi-phase developments as well as Build-to-Rent specialists.
The Mayor said the procurement process would be open to all and companies with a proven track record in delivering private sale, affordable and purpose-built private rented homes are being encouraged to bid.
The new LDP will provide greater flexibility to aid multi-phase developments and more options for public landowners to take income from the development of their land.
James Murray, Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development, said the Mayor had made increasing the number of affordable homes in the capital his “top priority”.
He said: “To help us achieve that, the new London Development Panel will gather together a pool of the capital’s expertise in this area to identify and develop suitable sites across the city.
“London’s housing crisis won’t be fixed overnight but the panel and its expertise will be a crucial tool in our efforts to build more of the genuinely affordable housing Londoners so urgently need.”
